A New Era in Hotel Power: Novotel Tallinn Switches to Diesel‑Free Backup System
Estmak Capital, together with its technology partner Ampere Plus, has announced the completion of a groundbreaking project: the installation of a modern, eco‑friendly, and highly reliable backup power system at the new Novotel Tallinn complex located at Poordi 5.

A Breakthrough Alternative to Diesel Generators
During the design phase, Ampere Plus proposed replacing the traditional diesel generator with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Estmak Capital approved the solution, making Novotel Tallinn one of the first large‑scale hospitality projects in Estonia to adopt such a system.

The energy storage solution ensures instant switchover during grid interruptions, dramatically improving the safety and resilience of the building’s engineering infrastructure.
A High‑Reliability System Built for Critical Needs
The newly installed system guarantees uninterrupted backup power for:
- fire safety systems;
- critical engineering components;
- equipment requiring a stable electricity supply.
Unlike diesel generators, which require time to start up, the BESS provides seamless, delay‑free switching—an essential advantage for modern hospitality infrastructure.
Fully Certified and Approved by Päästeamet
The entire system complies with current technical regulations and has successfully passed all inspections, testing, and certification procedures. Estonia’s Päästeamet has officially approved the solution, confirming its compliance with fire safety and electrical standards.
A Milestone for Estonia’s Real Estate Market
The implementation at Poordi 5 stands as one of Estonia’s first major examples of replacing a diesel generator with an energy storage system in the hotel sector. BESS technology reduces operating costs, eliminates emissions, and significantly lowers noise levels—making the property more sustainable and future‑ready.
“This project demonstrates that energy storage systems can fully replace generators in commercial and residential buildings. They offer higher safety, greater environmental benefits, and advanced technological performance,” Ampere Plus noted.
“Novotel Tallinn was envisioned as a next‑generation property, and integrating modern engineering solutions is a core part of our strategy. We are pleased that our collaboration with Ampere Plus has set a new benchmark for the entire market,” said Tatjana Arhipova, General Manager of Estmak Capital.
A Forward‑Looking Achievement
The successful implementation of this system highlights the strong partnership between Estmak Capital and Ampere Plus and sets a new standard for future hotel and commercial real estate projects across Estonia.
